My preference is always for those rare, pure, old school boxing gyms, free of ego, and full of passion for the sport. But sometimes I include the odd boxercise place because I know that not everyone wants the nitty gritty of actual combat.

Why listen to me: I’ve been boxing as an amateur for 6 years and trained in countless boxing gyms around the world from Seattle to Spain. I’ve learnt that picking the right gym can literally change your life and want to help you do the same. Learn more about me here.

PLEASE leave your own opinions and experiences about Miami boxing gyms in the comments at the bottom and I’ll continuously update this page to make it as useful as possible!

  • Best for: beginners, pros, and everyone in between
  • Online: website, Instagram, Facebook

5th Street, or World Famous 5th Street Gym as it used to be called, traces it’s roots back to the 1950’s.

Since then it has trained legends of the sport, including the one and only Mohammed Ali. It’s safe to say that you’ll be in very capable hands if you strap your gloves on here.

Don’t let that intimate you though, while they certainly take their boxing seriously here, it is welcoming to boxers of all levels, including total beginners.

In fact, being able to train alongside pros and amateur competitors as a beginner is a great way to speed up your learning curve and get inspired. (Don’t worry you won’t be put in a ring with one – unless you want of course!)

Coaches Dino, Tom, and the team are guaranteed to put you through a killer workout while also ensuring you learn proper boxing technique and get personal attention.

They’ve also done a great job a creating a friendly, energetic atmosphere that has it’s members talking about 5th Street as a second home.

5th Street certainly still lives up to it’s historic past. One of the best boxing gyms in Miami, no doubt. I highly recommend training here and next time i’m in town this is the first place I’ll go.

2️⃣ Mundo Boxing

Mundo Boxing in Miami

  • Summary: Passionate, dedicated, and experienced. The real deal.
  • Address: 7900 SW 40th St
  • Google rating: 4.9
  • Opening hours: M-F: 7am-3pm
  • Pricing: n.a.
  • Best for: more serious boxers
  • Online: website, Instagram, Facebook

Mundo Boxing was founded back in 2012 by Dr Pedro Diaz, a former pro boxing coach who has helped train over 21 Olympic Champions over a long and illustrious career.

He has worked with some of the best in the biz including Miguel Cotto who some people say was the toughest opponent Floyd Mayweather Jr ever faced.

They train champions here but also welcome beginners with open arms. If you want to compete, then you couldn’t ask for a better coach and environment. If you just want to get in great shape, then that’s totally fine too. The sessions here will get you in the form of your life.

They call themselves “The Family Team” here and they really mean it. They go hard, take their boxing very seriously, but treat you as one of their own if you’re willing to put the effort in and show respect.

As legendary Irish boxer Barry McGuigan said after sparring at Mundo’s: “They don’t fuck around in there”.

Sign me up. Boxing gyms in Miami don’t get much better than this.

Note that Mundo Boxing shares the space with the Muhammad Ali Boxing Center which is an amateur boxing team that trains here in the evenings.

3️⃣ Mickey Demos

Mickey Demos Boxing Gym in Miami

  • Summary: No nonsense, pure boxing gym. Train hard in an awesome atmosphere.
  • Address: 940 NW 7th Av
  • Google rating: 4.8
  • Opening hours: M-F: 6am – 8:30pm, Sa: 8:30am -12pm, Su: 8:30-11am
  • Pricing: n.a.
  • Best for: those really passionate about boxing
  • Online: Instagram, Facebook

They mean business at Mickey Demos. If you want to train at a gym that lives and breathes boxing, then look no further.

There’s nothing flashy about this place (they don’t even have a website) as they’re fully focused on their boxing – this is exactly how boxing gyms should be.

They train everyone from serious competitors to young kids. Anyone is welcome here so long as you’re willing to put the effort in and you can hack the intensity because one thing is for sure, Mickey is going to push you. Hard.

Mickey and the other coaches’ passion are matched only by their friendliness, and everyone who trains here comes away commenting how great the atmosphere and the crowd is. The facility itself is cool: it’s spacious, airy, and with plenty of quality equipment.

They have three group classes every weekday to choose from: 6am, 9am and 6pm. The rest of the time is open gym or you can book in some one on one time with a trainer.

There’s not a bad word said anywhere about Mickey Demos. Go check it out. You won’t be disappointed. They also love dogs here – big bonus in my books!

4️⃣ Lion Heart Boxing Gym

  • Summary: Newly opened Lion Heart is the real deal. Highly recommended.
  • Address: 2700 SW 27th Ave Suite 100/200

Having opened in 2021, Lion Heart is one of Miami’s newest boxing gyms and has quickly become a hugely popular place to train in the sweet science.

It was founded by pro boxer CJ “Lion Heart” Jackson who has gathered a top class team of experienced and motivating coaches including other former pros like Glen Johnson. If you train here, you know you’re going to be getting world class boxing instruction.

The facility is clean and modern, there are classes for all standards of boxers, and the atmosphere is electric.

They offer a wide variety of group classes, 7 days a week, including boxing technique, strength training, cardio, and kids classes.

At $245 per month (reduced to $190 if you but a 6 month package) Lion Heart is a little more expensive than some of the other options.

Only good things to say about this real-deal boxing gym. I’d love to get in the ring here (not with CJ though!). Highly recommended for all.

South Beach Boxing just hit its 25th anniversary and all those years have shaped it into one of the best boxing gyms in Miami without a doubt.

This gym is seeped in legendary boxing history and has hosted the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali and many more of boxing’s biggest names who have trained and visited this gym.

It’s a bit of a celeb magnet too, with the likes of Matt Damon and Will Smith having been members in the past.

Lots of passionate members talk about the family feel in South Beach Boxing, how it’s a lot more than just a gym. It’s a community, its a support system, it’s a second home, it’s a place for self development and growth. They’re great at boxing here, but they do a lot more than that.

This is one of those rare, authentic, old school Miami boxing gyms. Welcoming to all, but super dedicated to their craft. Go train here, coaches Jolie, Romeo, and co are absolutely nailing it!

6️⃣ Warrior’s Pride Boxing Academy

Warrior's Pride Boxing Academy in Miami

  • Summary: Get addicted to boxing with Mario and his class gym
  • Address: 12818 SW 122nd Ave
  • Google rating: 4.8
  • Opening hours: M-F: 7am-8:30pm
  • Pricing: $239 / month (unlimited classes)
  • Best for: everyone, especially kids
  • Online: website, Facebook, Instagram

There are only good things to say about Warrior’s Pride Boxing Academy and all of it stems from owner and head Coach Mario Salazar who is a hugely popular figure.

Mario does not just have an unmatched passion for boxing and deep expertise, but also an ability to make everyone else love the sport.

He’s like a boxing missionary. Step into his gym, take one of his classes, and you won’t fail to become obsessed immediately. No wonder this place has won so many awards for its boxing instruction.

Group classes are offered on Mon, Tues, and Weds evening under the supervision of certified USA Boxing Coaches. Everyone is welcome, no matter age, ability, or gender. They also have an anti-bullying program which teaches kids how to defend themselves in the event they need to.

They’ve recently moved to a brand new facility so all the equipment and training space is top notch too. One of Miami’s best boxing gyms, without a doubt.

7️⃣ Wolfpack Boxing Club

Wolfpack boxing club

  • Summary: A mixed combat sports gym for real fighters.
  • Address: 8753 SW 131st St
  • Google rating: 4.3
  • Opening hours: M-F: 6am-1pm & 5:30-9pm, S-S: 9am-12pm
  • Pricing: $169 / month (unlimited classes)
  • Best for: serious MMA fighters
  • Online: website, Instagram, Facebook

Wolfpack is a mixed combat sport gym that offers classes in boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai.

And they mean business in all of them. Wolfpack is anything but a boxercise studio – here they train proper fighters for competitive bouts.

To give you an idea of their style, they host regular “Spar Wars” events to give their members the chance to get some serious sparring training in, often in front of crowd. This is how you learn to fight. Love it.

Don’t let that put you off though if you’re new to all of this. They train fighters of all abilities and have dedicated classes for kids.

There’s lot of praise for the coaches, in particular Jake Poss, a highly experienced coach and amateur fighter who some say is the best striking coach in town.

There’s some criticism about billing practices, especially related to cancellation, so make sure you read the fine print before signing anything.

8️⃣ Boxr Gym

Boxr boxing gym

  • Summary: A high-end, slick, boxing and fitness studio. Tons of classes on offer.
  • Address: 1310 NE 1st Ave
  • Google rating: 4.7
  • Opening hours: M-F: 5:30am – midnight, Sa: 8am-8pm, Su: 10am6pm
  • Pricing: $169 / month (unlimited classes)
  • Best for: those who like some extra flair
  • Online: website, Instagram, Facebook

If James Bond were to train in a boxing gym, it would look like Boxr.

This place is very slick, with state-of-the-art equipment and modern lighting and sound systems. It feels more like an Apple store or a posh nightclub than a boxing gym, and definitely doesn’t have that gritty vibe that some of the best boxing gyms are known for.

The offer a wide variety of classes here including in boxing, muay thai , jiu jitsu , crossfit, yoga, pilates and have tons of other gym equipment too. So if you’re looking for more than just boxing technique then Boxr could be a good option for you.

And damn do they work hard here. They’re open seven days a week and offer up to 20 different classes per day on some days so they’ll definitely have something to fit your schedule and taste.

Strangely they boast of having an indoor half basket-ball court, and there are photos with a Lamborghini in the gym. Not quite sure I see the point in that!

Not one of those old school boxing gyms but a solid option if you like your gyms a bit modern and flashy and with plenty of class options.

How to choose a boxing gym in Miami

  • Coaches – an experienced, motivating coach makes all the difference. Not just when it comes to improving your technique but also in encouraging you to keep coming back time and time again. Becoming a good boxer takes a long time and so it’s important you find a coach that you click with if this is something you want to do for many years. Reviews will often focus on coaches so try looking for those for some insights.
  • Convenience of location and class timings – this is key. My boxing gym is on the same block as my home so I have no excuse not to go almost everyday, even if I’m not feeling up to it. Finding a gym that’s close to home or work will make your life much easier and help to make going to boxing training a habit. The same applies to class timings, if you have to massively disrupt your day to get to a class because it doesn’t fit your schedule then you’re going to be less likely to go.
  • Gym focus – I don’t have a problem with boxercise classes, but make sure you know what you’re signing up for if you join one of these. Boxercise is very different than actually learning how to fight and getting sparring experience. If you truly want to learn how to box then you need to box. That involves punching other people and getting punched yourself.
  • Trial class – most boxing gyms will allow you to have a free trial class so you can get a feel for the place before you sign up. This is a great way of evaluating whether you like the coach, the energy, and the focus of the gym. Always worth asking for a free trial class if you’re not sure whether it’s offered.

How much do boxing gyms in Miami cost? 💰

  • Monthly memberships: There’s a huge range here from ~$150-250 per month. Most places offer unlimited classes to their members. Be sure to check for this.
  • One-on-one personal training: Depending on the gym, costs are around $70 per hour as a minimum.
  • Drop-in boxing classes for non-members: ~$15-$30 per class
  • Initiation fee: not all places make you pay one of these (and I’m not a fan of it) but those that do usually charge a one-off fee of $50-$100

12th Round 🔔

Alright, I’m moving to Miami, it has so many world class boxing gyms. This city loves boxing and is bursting with epic, authentic boxing gyms. With places like 5th Street, Mundo’s, Mickey Demos, Lion Heart etc etc etc, your biggest challenge is going to be only picking one.

Happy fighting! 🥊🥊
