My preference is always for those rare, pure, old school boxing gyms, free of ego, and full of passion for the sport. But sometimes I include the odd boxercise place because I know that not everyone wants the nitty gritty of actual combat.

Why listen to me: I’ve been boxing as an amateur for 6 years and trained in countless boxing gyms around the world from Seattle to Spain. I’ve learnt that picking the right gym can literally change your life and want to help you do the same. Learn more about me here.

PLEASE leave your own opinions and experiences about Kansas City boxing gyms in the comments at the bottom and I’ll continuously update this page to make it as useful as possible!

As the name suggests, Bricks Boxing isn’t a pure boxing gym as they also coach kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu here. That said, it’s a great place to train in the sweet science of boxing.

Whether you’re a beginner looking to get in shape or a seasoned fighter wanting to compete, Bricks is the place for you.

Coaches Josh and Nick are very popular figures who have created a community atmosphere and ensure that all students get personal attention to improve their skills.

And wow do they work hard here. Bricks runs up to 8 classes everyday across boxing, competitive boxing, kickboxing, kids boxing and jiu-jitsu, so there is something for everyone. The warehouse-like facility itself looks awesome: it’s spacious and with tons of bags and equipment.

It’s hard to find a bad word said about Bricks. No doubt one of the best boxing gyms in Kansas City. I’d love to train here more often- go check it out!

2️⃣ Pound4Pound Elite Boxing Academy

Pound 4 Pound Boxing Academy

  • Summary: A real deal old school boxing gym.

  • Google rating: 5.0
  • Opening hours: M-F: 5-9pm
  • Pricing: n.a.
  • Best for: competitive boxers, kids
  • Online: Facebook

Pound 4 Pound don’t have a website – probably because they’re too busy focusing on their boxing.

This is one of those old school pure boxing gyms that are all about the true art of the sport. It’s about as far from boxercise as you can get – just how we like it.

Coach Melvin is the man. He’s extremely knowledgeable about boxing but also makes classes fun and enjoyable. In particular, he’s hugely popular with the kids who train with him, many of which he coaches for competitive amateur fights.

It doesn’t matter how old you are or how much boxing experience you are, go to Melvin, he’ll sort you out!

Info about classes schedules and pricing is hard to come by so swing round to the gym in Overland Park to meet the team and get the details.

Pound 4 Pound is certainly one of the best boxing gyms in Kansas City. Highly recommended.

Authentic Boxing Club is true to its name – this is an old school, pure boxing gym training fighters for competitive bouts.

And has been doing so since 1999. If you’re really serious about your boxing then this good be a good place to check out. If you’re a total beginner then it’s probably not right for you.

Head Coach, founder, and talisman, Larry Edgar, sadly passed away in early 2023 but the gym continues to be operated by Coach Calvin who has picked up the mantle and continues Larry’s legacy of community driven, passionate boxing training.

They often host fight nights here so if you fancy watching some high quality amateur boxing then this is the place for you.

They don’t share much info about the gym and are reportedly quite selective about who joins, so head on down and have with them to learn more if Authentic Boxing Club feels right for you.

They must be doing something right here: they’ve been in operation for over 20 years.

Sweet Z’s is a husband and wife operation, with Coach Zach leading the boxing and his wife Christi running yoga and meditation classes.

The two of them have created a gym with a welcoming and inspiring environment that is very popular among its members. No egos or dickheads here.

Zach is highly experienced coach who will teach you the real art of boxing and ensure you have a ridiculous workout while you’re at it. Beginners and pros alike are welcome here and you’ll get personal guidance to help you achieve your goals.

  • Pricing: n.a.
  • Best for: those looking for mixed combat training
  • Online: website, Instagram, Facebook

The focus at Chute is more on Muy Thai and Jiu Jitsu than boxing but I’ve included it in this list because they do hold one or two boxing classes everyday and by all accounts it is a top quality combat sports gym.

Its members are full of praise for the “amazing environment” and extremely highly qualified coaches Alex, Nik, and Claudio. The numerous 5 star reviews of Chute talk about it as a second home and feeling like family thanks to the caring nature of the coaches and people who train here.

Chute is suited to kids and adults, beginners and pros. Everyone is welcome here (so long as you’re ready for one hell of a workout!).

The right atmosphere is so important when it comes to boxing gyms and it’s clear that Chute Boxe has nailed this. If you’re not set on joining a pure boxing gym then I’d highly recommend Chute.

“FRB” is a non-profit gym that is very passionate about the sport. If you want to fight competitively, or train with top quality coaches and class amateur fighters, then this is the place for you.

Don’t let that put you off though, they are very welcoming to beginners here too. So long as you put the work in!

They’re so focused on their boxing at Flaco Ramirez that they haven’t got around to making a website so you’ll have to pay them a visit in person to find out more or drop them an email at flacoramirezboxing@gmail.com.

7️⃣ Whatsoever Boxing Club

Whatsoever Boxing in Kansas City

  • Summary: A humble but mighty pure boxing gym for passionate youths
  • Address: 1201 Ewing Ave
  • Google rating: 4.4
  • Opening hours: M-T: 5:30-7pm
  • Pricing: n.a.
  • Best for: those on a budget looking for pure boxing
  • Online: website, Facebook

Whatsoever Boxing Club is part of a community center with the same name and they have been training youth amateur boxers here since 1941 (that’s before the Second World War)!!

There is nothing fancy about Whatsoever but it is a pure boxing gym with plenty of passion for the sport – this is exactly how boxing gyms should be.

This is a club for young boxers who are looking to train competitively and they have trained many Golden Glove champs here over the years.

So, if you’re under 18 and want to get serious about boxing or are looking for a better of structure and discipline in your life then Whatsoever could be a great option.

There are no pricing details online but as it’s a community center you can expect the membership fees to be very reasonable. Most likely less than $50 a month.

8️⃣ Title Boxing Club

Title Boxing Club in Kansas City

  • Summary: Upmarket boxercise franchise. Great workout but limited focus on technique.
  • Address: 8029 State Line Rd
  • Google rating: 4.8

  • Pricing: $129 / month (unlimited classes)
  • Best for: beginners and fitness fanatics
  • Online: website, Instagram, Facebook
  • Website: https://titleboxingclub.com/state-line-mo/

Title Boxing Club is more of a boxercise studio but I’ve included it in this list as I know that’s what some people are after.

Title is a nationwide franchise of high quality gyms so you know you’ll get a killer workout here in a clean, well equipped facility, with friendly, well trained staff.

However, the focus at Title is exercise rather than boxing technique so make sure you’re aware of that before you sign up.

It’s a great way to get in incredible shape but if you’re looking to fight, to hit and get hit, then Title won’t be right for you.

It has hundreds of 5-star reviews so it’s no doubt very good at what it does. And with classes running from early morning till-evening 7 days a week, you’re bound to find plenty of times to fit your schedule.

How to pick a Kansas City boxing gym❓

  • Coaches – an experienced, motivating coach makes all the difference. Not just when it comes to improving your technique but also in encouraging you to keep coming back time and time again. Becoming a good boxer takes a long time and so it’s important you find a coach that you click with if this is something you want to do for many years. Reviews will often focus on coaches so try looking for those for some insights.
  • Convenience of location and class timings – this is key. My boxing gym is on the same block as my home so I have no excuse not to go almost everyday, even if I’m not feeling up to it. Finding a gym that’s close to home or work will make your life much easier and help to make going to boxing training a habit. The same applies to class timings, if you have to massively disrupt your day to get to a class because it doesn’t fit your schedule then you’re going to be less likely to go.
  • Gym focus – I don’t have a problem with boxercise classes, but make sure you know what you’re signing up for if you join one of these. Boxercise is very different than actually learning how to fight and getting sparring experience. If you truly want to learn how to box then you need to box. That involves punching other people and getting punched yourself.
  • Trial class – most boxing gyms will allow you to have a free trial class so you can get a feel for the place before you sign up. This is a great way of evaluating whether you like the coach, the energy, and the focus of the gym. Always worth asking for a free trial class if you’re not sure whether it’s offered.

How much do boxing gyms in Kansas City cost? 💰

  • Monthly memberships: ~$50-130 per month. Most places offer unlimited classes to their members. Be sure to check for this.
  • One-on-one personal training: This varies a lot but usually costs around $50 per hour as a minimum.
  • Drop-in boxing classes for non-members: ~$15-$25 per class
  • Initiation fee: not all places make you pay one of these (and I’m not a fan of it) but those that do usually charge a one-off fee of $50-$100

12th Round 🔔

Happy fighting!🥊🥊

“That man was beautiful. Timing, speed, reflexes, rhythm, his body, everything was beautiful. And to me, still, I would say pound for pound…I’d say I’m the greatest heavyweight of all time, but pound for pound, I still say Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest of all time.”
