In San Antonio championship-level boxing gyms are as abundant as rodeo, BBQ and big hats. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just starting out, Alamo City’s boxing scene has something to offer.
Let’s take a look:
My preference is always for those rare, pure, old school boxing gyms, free of ego, and full of passion for the sport. But sometimes I include the odd boxercise place because I know that not everyone wants the nitty gritty of actual combat.
Why listen to me: I’ve been boxing as an amateur for 6 years and trained in countless boxing gyms around the world from Seattle to Spain. I’ve learnt that picking the right gym can literally change your life and want to help you do the same. Learn more about me here.

It’s a pure boxing gym that focuses on coaching proper technique in small classes of 5-6 people and hosts sparring sessions too for those that want to get in the ring and fight. There aren’t many reviews yet as it hasn’t been around for long, but the reviews that it does have are full of praise.
The facility itself looks awesome: it’s in an old school classic boxing gym style but with a high quality, modern feel and finish. Take classes, either as a member or drop in, use the open gym, or get 1-on-1 coaching. There’s something here for all boxers, of all skills, and all ages.

Scribner coaches fighters of all ages and abilities, combing intense cardio and boxing technique in its classes, so you know you’ll get a serious workout while you’re fine tuning your fighting skills.

At just 60 bucks a month, Castillo’s is definitely one of the best value for money boxing gyms in San Antonio.
It also has a great community-atmosphere to it and the warehouse-like facility is spacious and well ventilated.
The friendly and respectful coaches will go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, no matter whether your goal is to get in the shape of your life or prepare for competition.
Castillo’s is especially praised for its coaching of kids and young adults. So if your son or daughter is keen on getting into boxing, or you think some hard work and fighting fun might do them so good, Castillo’s is the place for them.

Davies Boxing & Fitness describes itself as an “athletic performance based training facility with an emphasis on boxing”.
It’s not a pure boxing gym but head boxing coach Jefferey also trains the USA national team so it’s safe to say you’ll be getting taught the true art of the sport here.
The facility itself has everything you need, including 3 boxing rings, over 20 punch bags, and a whole host of cardio and weight equipment for when you’re not working on your technique. It’s open 7 days a week, morning until night, so no matter your schedule, you’ll be able to find a time that works for you.
The owner of the gym, Davies Entertainment, also hosts regular “Vegas-style boxing and music events” so if you wan’t to see some live fighting under the bright lights then keep an eye on their socials for info for the next “Brawl off Broadway”.
7️⃣ Randazzo Brothers
- Summary: Rough and ready pure boxing gym. No frills.
- Address: 12802 Nacogdoches Rd (Northern Hills)

- Opening hours: M-F: 11am-2pm & 5-8pm, Sa: 10am-2pm
- Pricing: n.a.
- Best for: boxing obsessives
- Online: Facebook, Instagram
Randazzo Brothers gets mixed reviews…It’s certainly rough around the edges and its head coach Santos might come across as a little insensitive to some, but it’s a boxing gym after all, not a pilates studio.
Sure, there’s nothing flashy about this place, no bells and whistles, it doesn’t even have a website. But, it’s been in business for over 10 years and trained my local champions so they certainly know what they’re doing here.
It sounds like Randazzo’s attracts a good crowd of friendly, passionate people who are always looking to help each other and learn proper boxing.
If you want to surround yourself with people who are all about boxing, in a place that is all about boxing, then Randazzo’s is a great option. If you’re looking to get spoon fed and for some content for your Instagram then you should problem try somewhere else.
8️⃣ Ramos Boxing Gym
- Summary: No frills pure boxing gym with 50 years experience

- Pricing: n.a.
- Best for: everyone
- Online: website, Instagram, Facebook
Ramos Boxing Gym has been around for over 50 years.
There’s nothing fancy about this place but if you’re after a pure boxing gym with highly experienced staff then this could be a great option for you. Owner Arturo Ramos has has been boxing non stop since he was 8 years old and is a much-liked figure in the local community.
Their website is half finished so most of the links don’t work and it has a map incorrectly showing a location in NYC! Guess they’re too busy focusing on the boxing to worry about their marketing…
Info about pricing and schedule is sparse so drop by if you’re in the area to get all the details. It is only open in the afternoons from 5:30pm.

How to pick a San Antonio boxing gym❓
- Coaches – an experienced, motivating coach makes all the difference. Not just when it comes to improving your technique but also in encouraging you to keep coming back time and time again. Becoming a good boxer takes a long time and so it’s important you find a coach that you click with if this is something you want to do for many years. Reviews will often focus on coaches so try looking for those for some insights.
- Convenience of location and class timings – for me this is so important. My boxing gym is on the same block as my home so I have no excuse not to go almost everyday, even if I’m not feeling up to it. Finding a gym that’s close to home or work will make your life much easier and help to make going to boxing training a habit. The same applies to class timings, if you have to massively disrupt your day to get to a class because it doesn’t fit your schedule then you’re going to be less likely to go.
- Gym focus – I don’t have a problem with boxercise classes, but make sure you know what you’re signing up for if you join one of these. Boxercise is very different than actually learning how to fight and getting sparring experience. If you truly want to learn how to box then you need to box. That involves punching other people and getting punched yourself.
- Trial class – most boxing gyms will allow you to have a free trial class so you can get a feel for the place before you sign up. This is a great way of evaluating whether you like the coach, the energy, and the focus of the gym. Always worth asking for a free trial class if you’re not sure whether it’s offered.
How much do boxing gyms in San Antonio cost? 💰
- Monthly memberships: ~$60-135 per month. Most places offer unlimited classes to their members. Be sure to check for this.
- One-on-one personal training: This can vary a lot but expect to pay around $50 per hour as a minimum.
- Drop-in boxing classes for non-members: ~$15-$30 per class
- Initiation fee: not all places make you pay one of these (and I’m not a fan of it) but those that do usually charge a one-off fee of $50-$100
12th Round 🔔
San Antonio has a great selection of boxing gyms. The sport seems to be thriving in this city and long may that last. Pick one of these gyms, get stuck in, and you’ll never look back.
Happy fighting!🥊🥊
“There are a lot of things and in order to be at the top and maintain your focus you have to have something that motivates you. For me, it was what I perceived as a lack of respect from the boxing world as well as the media, which made me want to work so hard and be great.”
