My preference is always for those rare, pure, old school boxing gyms, free of ego, and full of passion for the sport. But sometimes I include the odd boxercise place because I know that not everyone wants the nitty gritty of actual combat.

Why listen to me: I’ve been boxing as an amateur for 6 years and trained in countless boxing gyms around the world from Seattle to Spain. I’ve learnt that picking the right gym can literally change your life and want to help you do the same. Learn more about me here.

PLEASE leave your own opinions and experiences about Sacramento boxing gyms in the comments at the bottom and I’ll continuously update this page to make it as useful as possible!

The 8 Best Boxing Gyms in Sacramento🥊

1️⃣ Jose Morales Boxing Academy

Jose Morales boxing gym in Sacramento

In all the articles I’ve written about all those boxing gyms around the world, I don’t think I’ve seen a gym with reviews as positive as this one.

On Google alone it has 320 5-star reviews, and nothing but 5-star reviews. This many people can’t be wrong.

The praise is directed at all facets of the gym, from the welcoming environment, to the top class coaches (led by founder Jose), to the quality of the facility, and the intensity of the workout. Jose Morales Boxing Academy has it all.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a kid looking to try something new, or a seasoned pro needing to prepare for a fight. This place will sort you out. Just don’t come here with an ego and disrespect, you won’t fit in.

And wow do these guys work hard. With up to 11 different group classes offered throughout the day, starting at 5:30am and finishing at 8:30pm, you’ll have no trouble finding a time to fit your schedule. One-on-one training is also available.

Probably the best boxing gyms in Sacramento, if not the state.

2️⃣ Flawless Boxing & Fitness

Flawless Boxing in Sacramento

  • Summary: High-end, high-quality boxing gym suitable for anyone
  • Address: 600 Broadway (Southside)
  • Google rating: 4.7
  • Opening hours: M-F: 6am-8:45pm, Sa: 8am-10am
  • Pricing: $160 / month (unlimited classes)
  • Best for: boxers of all ages and abilities
  • Website: www.flawlessboxingfit.com/

Owned and managed by former pro-boxer, Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales, Flawless Boxing & Fitness has something for everyone.

Its 50 minute classes place a big emphasis on fitness through boxing and consist of jump rope, shadow boxing, heavy bag work, speed bag, double end, and floor exercises.

But if you’re looking to take your boxing to the next level, then they will also train you to compete. Oh and they have kids classes too.

The staff are all very experienced, welcoming, and passionate. But they won’t go easy on you – prepare to work hard in these classes. And if you stick at the training, it will be impossible for you not to get in great shape.

With up to 7 classes a day to choose from throughout the day, there are plenty of options to fit your schedule.

The facility itself looks awesome and it is used to host amateur fight nights. No doubt one of the best boxing gyms in Sacramento. Go check it out!

3️⃣ Roseville Boxing Academy

Roseville Boxing Academy in Sacramento

You can’t find a bad word said about this humble but mighty gym.

This is how boxing gyms should be: nothing fancy, but full of respect for each other, and for the sport.

Owners and coaches Abe and Kim are hugely popular characters, who take the time to make sure that everyone in the class is getting personal attention.

Roseville is welcoming to boxers of all ages and abilities, whether you’re strapping on gloves for the first time or whether you want to regularly spar.

Members also praise how much kids love the classes here so if your little ones are keen to try the sport, then this could be the place for them.

Honestly, I’d love to train here. This is one of those rare breeds of old school gyms that are sadly steadily dying out in the face of fancier boxercise studios. If you’re lucky enough to be in the area, go take a class at Roseville.

4️⃣ Cayuga Boxing Club

Cayuga Boxing Gym

  • Summary: Great atmosphere. Great facility. Great pure boxing gym.
  • Address: 6042 San Juan Ave (Citrus Heights)
  • Google rating: 5.0
  • Opening hours: M-F: 7am-8pm, Sa: 9am-5pm
  • Pricing: n.a.
  • Best for: the laid back and fun lovers
  • Website: Instagram page

There’s nothing but praise for Cayuga Boxing Club (seriously go check out the endless 5 star reviews on Google).

What stands out for me is the electric and friendly atmosphere that will soon make you feel like family, and most of this is thanks to Coach Shawn who is an extremely popular and respected figure.

At Cayuga they will teach you true boxing technique and meet you at your level to make sure that everyone feels welcome and cared for.

They offer group boxing classes or one-on-one coaching and it is suitable for everyone, whether you’re looking to get in the shape of your life or have ambitions to become a pro.

This is a top class authentic boxing gym and one of, if not the, best in Sacramento. Get me here now! Details are a little sparse though as they don’t have a website…

5️⃣ Prime Time Boxing

Prime Time Boxing

Prime Time has been training fighters in Sacramento for over 20 years so it’s safe to say that they really know what they are doing here.

This a proper boxing gym that is focused on coaching it’s members in genuine boxing technique.

The facility has all the equipment you need from speed bags to free weights and, when you’re ready and willing, you can get in the ring and do some sparring.

The coaches here are attentive and professional, and have created a motivating but non-intimidating environment. Coach Adrian in particular receives a lot of praise for his training and the quality of the workout in his classes.

Only downside is that they don’t have loads of classes to choose from (between 1 to 4 a day) and most days the latest class starts at 5:30pm so it might not work for you if your working day hasn’t ended by then.

6️⃣ Caballero NorCal Boxing

Caballero Gym

Caballero’s is so focused on its boxing that they haven’t even got a website.

They’re all about the sweet science here and offer a range of boxing instruction including group boxing classes, youth classes, boxing fitness, and amateur competitive coaching.

If you’re keen to get in the ring and fight competitively then this could be a great option for you – they train plenty of serious fighters here and organize sparring sessions and fight nights with other boxing clubs.

I noticed they have a $150 sign-up fee which is pretty steep if you ask me. As they don’t have a website, information about Caballero Boxing is pretty scarce, but they do share updates on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

7️⃣ California Boxing & MMA

California Boxing and MMA

There’s nothing fancy about this place but it’s an honest, hardworking, welcoming-to-all gym run by the friendly head coach Gilbert Zaragoza.

As the name suggests, it offers more than just boxing classes. You can also train here in Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, self-defence, and strength and conditioning.

They take their boxing seriously and train plenty of fighters, including kids, for amateur competition, so if you’re looking to get serious about your boxing then California Boxing & MMA could be a great option for you.

At $120 / month for unlimited classes, this is one of the most affordable boxing gyms in Sacramento suitable for those on a tighter budget.

8️⃣ Title Boxing Club

Title Boxing Club in Sacramento

  • Summary: High-end boxercise studio. Great for fitness, less so for technique.
  • Address: 1610 R St #135
  • Google rating: 5.0
  • Opening hours: M-F: 5:40am – 8pm, S: 8am-1pm, Su: 8am-12pm
  • Pricing: $179 / month (unlimited classes)
  • Best for: fitness fanatics avoiding contact
  • Website: www.titleboxingclub.com/ice-blocks-ca

Title Boxing Club isn’t strictly a boxing gym in the sense that the focus here is on a cardio workout rather than boxing technique.

Sure they will give you tips on how to throw a proper punch but those punches will only ever be directed at a heavy bag, there’s no sparring or partner work here.

The workouts are no doubt great though (fun, high energy, motivational, varied), and as it’s a nationwide franchise of 100+ locations, you can rest assured that the staff and equipment are top quality.

I get that not everyone wants to train in actual combat, in which case Title Boxing Club could be a great option for you.

They also have plenty of classes to choose from, morning till night, seven days a week. Certainly one of the hardest working boxing gyms in Sacramento!

How to chose a Sacramento boxing gym❓

  • Coaches – an experienced, motivating coach makes all the difference. Not just when it comes to improving your technique but also in encouraging you to keep coming back time and time again. Becoming a good boxer takes a long time and so it’s important you find a coach that you click with if this is something you want to do for many years. Reviews will often focus on coaches so try looking for those for some insights.
  • Convenience of location and class timings – for me this is so important. My boxing gym is on the same block as my home so I have no excuse not to go almost everyday, even if I’m not feeling up to it. Finding a gym that’s close to home or work will make your life much easier and help to make going to boxing training a habit. The same applies to class timings, if you have to massively disrupt your day to get to a class because it doesn’t fit your schedule then you’re going to be less likely to go.
  • Gym focus – I don’t have a problem with boxercise classes, but make sure you know what you’re signing up for if you join one of these. Boxercise is very different than actually learning how to fight and getting sparring experience. If you truly want to learn how to box then you need to box. That involves punching other people and getting punched yourself.
  • Trial class – most boxing gyms will allow you to have a free trial class so you can get a feel for the place before you sign up. This is a great way of evaluating whether you like the coach, the energy, and the focus of the gym. Always worth asking for a free trial class if you’re not sure whether it’s offered.

How much do boxing gyms in Sacramento cost? 💰

  • Monthly memberships: ~$100-200 per month. Most places offer unlimited classes to their members. Be sure to check for this.
  • One-on-one personal training: This can vary a lot but expect to pay around $75 per hour as a minimum.
  • Drop-in boxing classes for non-members: ~$15-$30 per class
  • Initiation fee: not all places make you pay one of these (and I’m not a fan of it) but those that do usually charge a one-off fee of $50-$100

12th Round 🔔

I was very pleasantly surprised by how many world class boxing gyms Sacramento has. With the likes of Jose Morales, Flawless, Roseville Academy, Cayuga etc etc, there are so many good options for you to choose from. It’s great to see the boxing scene thrive in this city.

Happy fighting!🥊🥊

“It’s been like that forever. We got spoiled by Joe Louis, by Rocky Marciano. Muhammad ruined us for everybody. He was great outside [the ring]; he was great inside. We got so accustomed to it we thought we deserved it.” – Angelo Dundee
